Saher – Saher and its benefits

Saher is an "Automated System" for the management of traffic via e-systems covering major cities in Saudi Arabia. Saher System uses digital cameras network technology connected to the National Information Center (NIC).

The main purpose of the Saher was to reduce the traffic accident.  It was identified that speeding and breaking of traffic rules was one of the major cause of accidents. Hence this automatic system was installed to catch the people who are breaking the traffic rules.  One of the main advantage of this system is that the picture of the person who is violating the traffic rules is captured by the Camera, apart from this the date and timing of the violation is also recorded.  So the person may not be in a position to complain.  However there is a drawback of the system also.  Many tickets were also issued may be due to the fault in the technical system. On a deeper look the cases were few.   

One person got a message that he was fined for speeding but the vehicle he was using so old that there was no scope for him to drive his car more than 80Km per hour but he was fined.  He did his best to appeal against the penalty but he was told that he should visit the office of the muroor.  Since he did now knew Arabic he felt that it is wiser to pay the fine rather than waiting for the Saher to double his penalty.  He assumed that his case might have been caught by manual camera and the person might have mistaken his car as speeding rather than his neighboring car.  The traffic department has been involved in lot of measures to make the roads safer.  The statistics of road accidents are one of the highest in the World.  There lots of people maimed and died due to these traffic accidents.  It is better to be safer than sorry.  Hence precautions are always better if done properly.  Saher is not the only one solution, but it can be treated as one of the elements in reducing the accidents rate.  The violators of traffic rules will always find routes to cause more violations.  To some extent Saher has helped in making the reckless drivers more cautious.  Saher has also made the innocents to pay the penalty for not violating the traffic rules but their ignorance.
